Το όνομα προέρχεται από το διάσημο μυθιστόρημα του ήρωα του Αλέξανδρου Δουμά «Ο Κόμης του Μοντεκρίστο», το οποίο αγαπήθηκε όταν διαβάστηκε από τον Λέκτορ στους Torcedores (πουροποιούς) στο εργοστάσιο όπου ιδρύθηκε το 1935.

Montecristo is the best known and perhaps the most appreciated cigar brand in the world. It is the benchmark for many Habanos smokers against which other brands are judged. The name comes from the famous novel by the hero Alexander Dumas, “The Count of Montecristo”, which was beloved when it was read by Lector to the Torcedores (cigar makers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.
